Fractionated Carbon Dioxide C02 Laser:
What does it do?
Fractionated or “pixilated” carbon dioxide (CO2) lasers are one of the latest innovations in non-ablative, non-surgical skin rejuvenation technologies. The CO2 has the longest wavelength of all the lasers available to date. It can be used safely on darker skin types via adjustments in the energy and pulse settings.
Fractionated CO2 lasers are best for treating deeper wrinkles, and can reach deeper to repair the more severe textural changes from sun damage, wrinkles, spots, acne scars, and surgical or post-traumatic scars.
It can be even used on the thinner eyelid skin, or around the mouth. It is also a very effective treatment for sun damage and precancerous growths (which can be covered by insurance when it is medically necessary.)
Fractionated CO2 lasers are most commonly used to improve texture, wrinkles, and unevenly discolored skin on the neck, chest, arms, and hands. With gentle settings, there is minimal risk for scarring or complications.
What does CO2 Laser NOT do?
It does not remove redness caused by dilated blood vessels (telangectasias), or the blotchy redness discoloration on the neck (poikiloderma).
During the initial recovery period, it can make these problems look a bit worse because the laser energy itself causes redness. For problems with red and veins, a medical grade IPL like ours or pulsed yag laser-like ours described above are more effective.
